UNIVERSITY INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY UNIVERSITY OF KERALA PROSPECTUS FOR ADMISSION TO B. Sc. (COMPUTER SCIENCE), B. Sc. (ELECTRONICS), BACHELOR OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION AND B. Com. (COMPUTER APPLICATIONS) COURSES The University of Kerala has set up an Institute of Technology with regional centres at Adoor, Alappuzha, Neyyattinkara, Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanapuram, Pirappancode and Yeroor to train students for employment in R & D institutions, industry, business organisations and for self-employment. With this aim, the University has started B. Sc. Computer Science, B. Sc. Electronics, Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.) courses which are designed as three (3) year, six (6) semester single main bachelor degree courses and B. Com. Computer Applications which is designed as a three (3) year, six (6) semester three main bachelor degree course. ELIGIBILITY A pass in Higher Secondary Examination of the state or an Examination accepted by the University as equivalent thereto with (a) Physics and (b) Mathematics/ Computer Science. 2. B. Sc. Electronics Code : 002 A pass in Higher Secondary Examination of the state or an Examination accepted by the University as equivalent thereto with Physics and Mathematics as subjects. 3. Bachelor of Business Administration Code : 003 The eligibility for admission to B.B.A degree course under the University of Kerala is a pass in the Higher Secondary/Technical Higher Secondary/Vocational Higher Secondary examination of the Kerala State Government with any subject combination or any other examination declared by the University of Kerala as equivalent thereto. 4. B. Com. Computer Applications Code : 004 A pass in Pre-Degree examination of the University of Kerala or its equivalent. In the case of science subjects, a minimum of 45 per cent marks in the qualifying examination is required. D. ADMISSION PROCEDURE 1. B. Sc. Computer Science and B. Sc. Electronics Admission shall be made purely on the basis of marks obtained for Higher Secondary or equivalent qualifying examinations (as mentioned in "B' 1 & 2 above). The ranking marks shall be derived by adding the individual marks for Physics and Mathematics to the total marks obtained by the applicant. In case of the individual maximum marks being more than 100, the individual marks obtained shall be converted to the base of 100. E.g. If the marks scored is 90 out of 150, the converted marks shall be 60. 2. Bachelor of Business Administration Admission shall be made on the basis of merit as determined by scores obtained by the candidates seeking admission computed in the following manner. A weightage of 50 per cent for the marks obtained in the qualifying examination. A weightage of 50 per cent for the marks obtained in the Entrance Test conducted by the University for this purpose. The admission test is designed to assess the candidate's ability in verbal reasoning, logical reasoning, quantitative/mathematical reasoning, English language and comprehension. The mode of calculation of weightage of marks in the qualifying examination is as follows: The applicants seeking admission to B.B.A. course shall be classified into two groups. Group I Those with pass in Pre-Degree or equivalent with Science subjects. Group II Those with pass in Pre-Degree or equivalent with subjects other than Science. In computing the admission score from the total marks obtained in the qualifying examination, the average marks obtained by the top five (5) scores in each group will be considered as the maximum marks in that category by any candidate and the marks obtained by a candidate shall be converted as admission score to the base of this maximum. e.g. If the top 5 marks among the applicants under a group is 93%, 92%, 91%, 90% and 84%, then the "Average' will be 90.00. The aggregate marks of 90% and above will be considered as 90 and the calculation will be as follows: Case 1 For 90 and above : (90/90)x50 = 50.00 Case 2 For 84 : (84/90)x50 = 46.67 Case 3 For 72 : (72/90)x50 = 40.00 The mode of calculation of weightage of marks in the Entrance Test is as follows: The actual marks obtained by the candidate is to be converted to a base of 50. 3. B. Com. Computer Applications Admission for the course shall be made purely on the basis of merit as determined by the marks in the qualifying examination. E. FEE 1. (A). Semester Fee B. Sc. Computer Science / B.B.A. / B. Com. B. Sc. Electronics Computer Applications Tuition Fee Rs. 5,000/-Rs. 3,750/- Other Fee (Lab, Library, etc) Rs. 3,000/-Rs. 1,750/- Total Rs. 8,000/-Rs. 5,500/­ (B). The students should pay Annual Group Insurance premium of Rs. 15/-and a one time Affiliation Fee of Rs. 200/­ 2. Examination Fee The student will be liable to pay the examination fee as prescribed by the University from time to time. 3. Caution Deposit (Refundable) A caution deposit of Rs.5,000 for B. Sc Computer Science/Electronics and Rs. 1,500 for BBA/B.Com Computer Applications will be collected at the time of admission, which will only be refunded at the end of the course or upon the student leaving the Institute, after deducting any dues payable to the Institute or the University. 4. Exemption from payment of Tuition Fee Students eligible for fee concession (SC, ST, OEC) will be exempted from payment of tuition fee only subject to the condition that the filled in prescribed educational scholarship form will be submitted within a month from the date of admission. Note : Fee once paid will NOT be returned or refunded or adjusted against any other dues to the University under any circumstance. F. APPLICATION DETAILS AND PROCEDURE 1. Application for admission has to be made only in the prescribed form. 2. Separate application form is necessary for each course of study at each centre. 3. Application form and prospectus may be downloaded from www.keralauniversity.edu . 4. Filled in application should be submitted along with a Demand Draft for Rs. 210 /-(per application) taken from SBT/SBI/District Co-operative Bank drawn in favour of Finance Officer, University of Kerala payable at Thiruvananthapuram or Cash receipt for Rs. 200 /-remitted at the University Cash Counter or at FRIENDS Centres (Jana Sevana Kendras). 5. Filled in application forms should reach the office of the Principal(s) of the respective centre(s) not later than 3.00 p.m. on the last date mentioned in the notification. UIT bears no responsibility for delayed receipt or loss in transit. Applications which are not duly filled in and / or without the required attested certificates will be "summarily rejected'. 6. Applicants should enclose self-attested copies of the following documents and a self-addressed envelope with required stamp for ordinary post along with each application. i) Proof of age ii) Copy of Mark List iii) Copy of Pass Certificate of Qualifying Examination iv) Copy of Course and Conduct Certificate v) Copy of certificate in respect of reservation claimed (community / income) G. GENERAL 1. Candidate should produce their original certificates and mark lists at the time of interview / admission. 2. Candidate should appear for entrance test / interview / admission at their own cost. 3. If any candidate who is provisionally selected fails to report to the Officer concerned on or before the specified date and time or if he/she fails to pay the fee indicated in the admission memo, his/her selection will stand cancelled. 4. The admission lists will be provisional and subject to confirmation by the University. 5. In all matters of admission, the decision of the University will be final and binding. 6. The University will not be responsible for non receipt or late receipt of application forms, admit card/ interview memos and other correspondence regarding admission. 7. Late applications will not be considered under any circumstance. 8. The name of the applicant and the purpose of remittance should be written on the reverse side of the Demand Draft. 9. Candidates from Universities other than University of Kerala should produce migration certificate at the time of interview / admission. 10. The applicant whose qualifying examination is other than Pre-Degree of the University of Kerala should submit an eligibility certificate from the University of Kerala. 11. Candidates seeking admission to the BBA course shall note the following: (i) The photograph and signature of the candidate on the admit card attached to the application form should be attested by a gazetted officer. (ii) Candidates should enclose an additional self-addressed envelope with sufficient stamps for registered post. (iii) All the UIT Centres where the BBA course is offered will be venues for the entrance test. Candidates should appear for the entrance test at the UIT centre where admission is sought. (iv) Candidates who have applied for admission at more than one UIT centre need to take the entrance test at any one UIT centre only. Such candidates, however, have to produce the admit cards received from the other UIT centres at the time of the entrance test. (v) The date and time of the entrance test will be intimated separately. 12. All wordings in this prospectus are only guidelines and are subject to change as per University decisions from time to time.
